As East African countries grow their investment in satellite technology for communications, defence, security, research, disaster management and weather forecasting, the region is also growing as a launch and test site for the industry.

GME Recycling has built the first automated aluminum recycling plant in Nigeria

"In general, there are plants in Africa for the recycling of aluminum scrap, but none with this combination of high capacity (150,000 tons of waste per year) and GME's level of technology and automation, and therefore final yield recovery. It is estimated that our plant can achieve separated aluminum with a yield of over 97% and is fully automated, drastically reducing the disposal of abandoned waste and eliminating the typical exploitation of these territories."

Kenya’s President William Ruto fired all but one cabinet minister in his second shock decision following deadly protests triggered by tax increases. The first was the withdrawal of the tax measures on 26 June, the day after at least a dozen people were killed in youth-led nationwide protests. Ruto has promised to replace the discredited cabinet with a government of national unity to address numerous other grievances, such as official corruption. We asked John Mukum Mbaku, a scholar with a research interests in public choice, constitutionalism and institutional reform, to discuss the decision.
